Air Fryer Sweet Potato Fries
These are the best air fryer sweet potato fries! They are so crispy, flavorful and easy to make in the air fryer. Here I share two methods, a quick method that is delicious and a longer method that comes out perfectly crisp. Both taste great, feel free to use the method you prefer! Since you only need a little oil, they are also lighter and healthier than deep frying. One of my first recipes I ever made with my air fryer. Since then I have published two air fryer cookbooks and hundreds of air fryer recipes! Serve them with turkey burgers, or as a snack with your favorite dipping sauce. This is one of the first air fryer recipes I have ever shared. The fries are DELICIOUS but comments I get are that they’re not crispy. So I set out to tackle how to make a crispier air fryer sweet potato fries recipe and figured it out! It’s a few more steps, so I figured I would keep the quicker method if you don’t care (less crisp) and the crispier method that has more steps but made all in one batch.

- Spray the basket with oil and return the sweet potatoes to the air fryer.
- Increase the temperature to 380F degrees, and cook until golden brown and crisp, about 4 to 5 minutes, shaking the basket halfway.
- Transfer sweet potato fries to large plate and serve right away with your favorite dipping sauce.
Variations
Play around with different spices for your fries. If you like them smokey, use smoked paprika. To make them spicy add some cayenne pepper. Or swap the seasoning for cajun seasoning. If you want them sweet, try sprinkling them with cinnamon or pumpkin spice.
Tips for Perfect Sweet Potato Fries in the air fryer:
- Peel the potatoes or leave the skin on for more fiber.
- Start by making sure you cut all the fries the same size. This way, everything cooks at the same time, without burning, overcooking or under-cooking some.
- Don’t overcrowd the basket. If you’re using method 1, depending on the size of your air fryer basket and how many fries you’ll be making, cook the fries in batches in a single layer so there’s enough air flow for them to crisp up.
- If cooking in batches, to make sure everything is hot at the same time once cooked you can pile all the batches back into the air fryer and heat them up 1 minute.
- Turn halfway. Flipping your food halfway or shaking the basket a few times is a must for even cooking.
- Open the basket to test for doneness. Don’t be afraid to open the air fryer to check to see if they are done. All air fryers will vary slightly. If your fries are cut thicker, they will take longer to cook. Adjust as needed.

- Yes, it’s healthier that deep frying because you use less oil.
